Awards for All to Argyll

A spectrum of initiatives in Argyll have just been successful  in their applications to the Awards for All lottery fund, togethr bringing £58,320 to the region.

  • Mid Argyll Athletic Club, through William MacCallum: £4,910 to support taster sessions and two athletic competitions for people living in Argyll and Bute.
  • Strath of Appin Primary School Parent Council, through Fiona Hutchison: £9,000 for the purchase of playground equipment to create a fun, safe play area for pupils and local children.
  • Argyll Piping Trust, Peter Forrester: £10,000 for a core supply of bagpipes for each student in its school tuition  programme.
  • Castle Hill Primary School Campbeltown, through Mairi MacKinnon: £1,39 to take P7 pupils on a 4 day cultural visit to Edinburgh.
  • Cowal Golf Course, through Steven Girvan: £5,000 to enable the  Junior Section to set up an indoor training facility.
  • Glenbarr Primary School, Tarbert, through Jessie MacDougall: £10,000 to purchase equipment for the school playground and available outside school hours.
  • South Kintyre Fit Communities, through Susan Paterson: £9,620 to this new group to host a number of community events promoting safety and health issues.
  • Oban and District Riding Club, through Emma Smith: £8,395 for a full set of show jumps and a box trailer.

Argyll’s MSP and Enterprise Minister, Jim Mather, is not only delighted for Argyll at the news of these awards but is encouraged by the widespread evidence of enterprise ii the initiatives put forward.

In congratulating all the grant-winners, Mr Mather says: ‘They have done Argyll and Bute a great service in enhancing the quality of life in each community, fulfilling the Awards for All outcomes in such a variety of endeavours’.

Awards for All Scotland is supported by the Scottish Arts Council, sportscotland and the Big Lottery Fund.  It makes grants of anywhere between £500 and £10,000 to support participation in art, sport, heritage and community activities and in projects that locally promote education, the environment and health.
