Scottish Opera Highlights at Benderloch’s Victory Hall

Scottish Opera at Benderloch

As you can see from the tour image – Scottish Opera is hitting the road with its Opera Highlights tour, bringing four fantastic young singers with a sparkling programme of excerpts from well-known operas – and some surprises from lesser-known works.

We can only hope that their transport is more reliable- if less fun – and that they make their date in Benderloch on 4th March without mishap.

Audiences traditionally love the variety and the sheer entertainment value of this programme.

It has something for everyone – from seasoned fans to opera first-timers, featuring a mixture of operatic styles including arias, duets and ensembles from operas like Puccini’s La bohème, Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Gounod’s Romeo and Juliet as well as music by Handel, Rossini, Gilbert and Sullivan, Saint-Saëns and Bernstein.

The cast this year includes:

  • two Scottish Opera Emerging Artists, soprano Miranda Sinani and mezzo-soprano Louise Collett -  both performing for the company throughout the 2009/10 season
  • tenor Adrian Ward, winner of the 2008 Royal Over-Seas League vocal section prize
  • baritone Robert Tucker, a recent Emerging Performer at the Australian Opera Studio.

Accompaniment will be by Ruth Wilkinson on piano.

This annual and unpretentious tour opens up opera to those who find its image rather exclusive. Opera Highlights is the perfect opportunity to hear opera up close and personal in a familiar venue near home.

With tickets costing only £10, it’s an affordable as well as an unforgettable night out.

Details and booking arrangements are:

  • 7.30pm on Thursday 4th March 2010 in the Victory Hall, Benderloch
  • Booking: Tickets are £10. Phone Terry Donovan:  01631 720498
