Scottish Centre for Geopoetics visit to Islay

The Scottish Centre for Geopoetics, based on the Isle of Luing, is arranging a visit to Islay from Friday 26th February to Monday 1st March. It has booked the Youth Hostel at Port Charlotte, which holds thirty beds. The current price for the weekend is £55 per person, with 15 places already filled.

  • On the Saturday there will be a visit to the RSPB reserve at Loch Gruinart where thousands of geese and other birds will be overwintering. This will be led by ornithologist Bill Eddie and Richard Wesley from Seil Natural History Group.
  • Sunday sees a visit to the Islay Natural History Centre and Museum.
  • Before leaving on Monday there will be visits to Portnahaven Bay and village and finally Richard Gulliver (botanist) will lead a walk in Bridgend Woods.
  • The return will  be from Port Askaig at 3.30 pm.
