The Pack Inquiry was set up last year, named after its Chair, Brian Pack and is examining how best future funding for the Agricultural sector might be managed.

The Inquiry is now to hold public meetings in Oban (15th February) and in Perth (16th February).

It wants to hear people’s views as part of a consultation on its interim report.

This suggests that future agricultural support should be structured in four strands:

  • Direct payments
  • Top-up fund
  • Rural development programme funding
  • Less Favoured Area (LFA) support.

Getting his defence in first, Brian Pack says: ‘This interim report is very much an Aunt Sally for stakeholders to comment on and bring forth fresh evidence to help shape the final report.

‘To inform the final report – scheduled for June 2010 – we are holding public consultations and gathering additional evidence on the various issues flagged up.’

Rural Affairs Secretary Richard Lochhead says: ‘The volume of evidence presented to the Inquiry team so far is testament to how much importance the agricultural sector attaches to the Inquiry.

‘I am sure that level of interest will continue but grow and I’d urge everyone with an interest in the future of farming to have their say during the detailed consultation phase.’

The meetings will take place at:

  • Corran Halls, Oban: 7.30pm on 15th February
  • Dewars Centre, Perth: 7.30pm on 16th February

  1. kintyre1 Says:

while i welcome the opportunity to have a say on the reforms , Oban is not a convenient venue for many in Argyll . There should be a further meeting in mid argyll or kintyre
