This sounds like an inspired piece of fun. Think 15th May, the classic International North West 200 road race, the triangular circuit starting and finishing at Portrush on the north coast of Northern Ireland…
Then think a fast RIB sea crossing, in a party of 12, snug in a fully covered cabin, journey time of around an hour and a half from Campbeltown straight into Portrush Harbour – and back home in the evening after the race. No overnight accommodation costs. No driving. Delivered straight to the heart of the race.
Even if you’re not a biker but warm to the thrill of the race and the adventure of this unique day out, this is a hard-to-resist imaginative enterprise from the Kintyre Express.
The boat is based in Troon and normally does a Troon to Campbeltown run.
On this occasion, Wilson Smith, who has recently sold the award-winning business to Colin Craig of West Coast Motors, had the great idea of running the boat out of Campbeltown on 15th May for a party of 12 bound for the North West 200.
The schedule looks like leaving Campbeltown at 8.00am for a race start at 11.00 in Portrush (time for breakfast at the other side) – and back home again, leaving Portrush at around 6.30pm, with an ETA at Campbeltown of around 8.15pm.
The provisional price is around £79 per person for a party of 12.
If you’re interested, contact Lawson Smith via the Kintyre Express website – and see the boat. You’ll find him:
- by phone: land line 01294 270160; or 24 hour mobile 07919 543271
- by email: info@kintyreexpress.com Our advice is to put ‘Kintyre Express to NW 200 ‘ in the subject line of the email.
The provisional price for the day return on this unique trip is £79 per person.
The adventure depends on a party of 12 or 12 people making the trip. So the quicker you get your expression of interest in, the quicker the company can finalise the arrangements.
May is usually a lovely month and the views on this trip are spectacular. Definitely one for the adventurous spirit and one for the memories.

a fantastic opportunity to see a beautiful part of Northern Ireland . What a shame the snp have let campbeltown down so badly over a regular ferry link to Ulster .

Kintyre1 ought to take a leaf out of Abe Lincoln’s book:
‘Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt’.
