Oban’s Lifeboat, the Mora Edith Macdonald, gathered her skirts and set out again late this afternoon (18th February) to go to the aid of two kayekers trapped in the Lynn of Lorn in worsening visibility.
The kayakers, who were holidaying at South Shian, had reached the South end of the Isle of Lismore when the visibility closed in with heavy snow showers.
Fearing that they couldn’t get back to the mainland before the light failed, they went ashore and called for assistance using a mobile phone.
The lifeboat, paged at 1627, launched at 1635, picked up the kayakers at 1649 and landed them back at the lifeboat berth at 17.16. The lifeboat was refuelled and ready for service at 1730.
The two kayakers were most apologetic but were assured by coxswain Ronnie MacKillop that they had done the correct thing in calling for help immediately rather than have the situation complicated by darkness.
