Internal Royal Navy air rifle shooters detained by MoD Police at Faslane

In what has all the hallmarks of irresponsible armed larks at the Royal Navy’s UK Nuclear Submarine Base at Faslane in Argyll, two members of the naval staff have been detained following the reported discharge of a weapon at around lunchtime on Friday.

Ministry of Defence (MoD) Police were alerted after reports of shots in the area of an accommodation block at the base. An air rifle was fund in a room there and two RN service staff were detained.

The Navy’s own Police Service has now taken over the investigation of the incident in which no one was injured.

The MoD are not prepared to comment on the matter, saying: ‘As an official investigation is under way into the allegations, it would be inappropriate to comment or speculate further’.
