The recession, with the accelerator of the prolonged cold period which saw flights having to be cancelled, combined to hurl Highland Airways into a fight for survival.
The airline has continued to fly its scheduled services, sometimes taking bookings for no more than the following couple of days. During this flight-by-flight period, the company was – and remains – in discussions with a potential purchaser of the entire share capital of the company.
Progress has been made by the recent signing of an Exclusivity Agreement with this party. Highland Airways is currently negotiating with the key stakeholders and creditors in the business in order to ensure its future viability.
Subject to satisfactory resolution of these ongoing negotiations, the Board of the company is now cautiously optimistic.
Evidence of this is that the airline is now accepting bookings on all its scheduled flights until the end of March.
Bookings beyond this point are not currently being taken but will be available as soon as possible.
Highland Airways operates Argyll Air Services for Argyll and Bute Council, flying from the Council-owned Oban AirportĀ to the islands of Colonsay, Coll and Tiree.
Schedule information and flight booking is online at Highland Airways.
