Two top USA-based golf publications have honoured the Machrihanish Dunes Golf Course in Kintyre. It has been:
- listed by Links magaazine as one of the best new courses of 2009;
- included by Golfweek at 21st place (out of 40) in its listing of the Best New Modern Courses of Great Britain and Ireland.
Golfweek is one of the largest golf publications in the U.S. with over 1 million readers. Its Best New Modern Courses of Great Britain and Ireland awards were decided by votes from raters through out the USA and Europe.
Links Magazine is a bi-monthly publication with over 50,000 readers that features news and information about golf courses, resorts and destinations around the world. Its list of Best New Courses is compiled each year by its editors and writers.
Together these honours will attract significant attention to this unique course in its setting in a beautiful Site of Special Scientific Interest.
Greg Sherwood is President of Southworth Golf who, through Southworth Developments, are developing the course and the supporting infrastructure including two local hotels: The Royal Hotel on Campbeltown’s harbourside; and the Ugadale Hotel in Machrihanish.
He says of these valuable recognitions: ‘Machrihanish Dunes is thrilled to be recognized by these two leading US golf publications.
‘The course, David McLay Kidd’s first design in his home country of Scotland, is challenging, beautiful and unique – and it’s wonderful to see it continue to receive these kinds of accolades. They provide additional assurance to our guests that when they come to Machrihanish Dunes, they will be enjoying the finest golf experience possible.’
