Drop-in session for Campbeltown folk to catch up on major developments

A drop in event has been organised to bring the general public up to speed on the major infrastructure projects in the pipeline for Campbeltown.

The event, at Campbeltown’s Town Hall on Wednesday 10th March rom 11am-7pm, hopes to attract anyone who is interested in hearing first-hand about the biggest financial investment in Campbeltown in a generation.

Project team managers and members from Argyll and Bute Council and partners will be present all day to discuss projects being undertaken in Campbeltown, including:

  • Redevelopment of Campbeltown Marina
  • Regeneration of Kinloch Road, including new social housing from Argyll Community Housing Association (ACHA)
  • Significant infrastructure works to Campbeltown Harbour, Park Square and the route to the factory to support the development of renewable energy technology at Machrihanish
  • Early proposals for an all weather pitch in Campbeltown

In addition, representatives will be there from Skycon to talk about what they are doing at the wind turbine manufacturing facility at Machrihanish.

Councillor John Semple, Chair of Campbeltown CHORD Project Board, encouraged members of the public to go along to the event.

‘This is a very ambitious and forward looking time for Campbeltown. This drop-in event is an opportunity for the community to learn about what will be happening, speak to the people who will be implementing the plans and let us know what you think.

‘This investment is additional to the Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme and the Townscape Heritage Initiative and forms part of the Council’s wider £30m programme of regeneration and economic development projects in the Council’s 5 main waterfront towns’.

There is no doubt that a lot of things have come together – have been brought together – to fill Campbeltown’s fuel tanks.

The combination of opportunities and developments streaming into action just now will give the residents a chance to gear up to meet the challenge of an ambitious response.

If there is a tide in the affairs of men, this is a flood tide in the affairs of Campbeltown. Go with the flow.

  1. This could be like the Edinburgh businessman who presented himself at the Heavenly Gates and was interviewed by St Peter.

” I have been a model of rectitude on earth, married and always good living. I have been scrupulous in my business and have accumulated reasonable wealth although I confess that I sometimes coveted the wealth of others. I drank only moderately and I always objected to bad language. I was always swift to condemn any signs of independence of spirit as I sincerely believe that my role in life is to be humble and subservient. Although I am a Scot I cannot help that.”

To which St Peter said, closing his book, ” You can come in, but you will not like it”
