The Dunoon Observer has a new website – and seems to be really going for a good online presence.
This is great to see.
In 2008 the Dunoon Observer won the Best Local Newspaper Website Award in the For Argyll Awards 2008 – which are decided by public voting.
The paper was rather embarrassed by this as its website then hardly filled that bill. The votes had clearly been given for its good journalism.
What’s happened now is proof that the medieval concept of flattery works. ‘Flattery’ was then seen as a device to be used to draw people into fulfilling the roles for which they were being praised.

For Bill Jardine: We accept your offer of the For Brittany Award. There is no more worthy winner.
But are you trying to flatter us into being even worse?

With a degree of horror I noted the errant apostrophe.

The award is now withdrawn.
I thought it was very imaginative of you to produce a news piece in what appeared to be pidgin Serbo-Croat, but now it’s been translated into plain English it’s lost all its impact……

We hold our hands up to swift revisions – and thank you for being the possessor of better eyesight than ours (too small a team and too many hours at the screen). Even if you take the award back now, we assure you we’ll be competing for it again – any time now.
