Coast at the Skipinnish Ceilidh House

Southampton band Coast lived up to the pre-event excitement by playing a bouncing gig at the Skipinnish Ceilidh house in Oban.

The grand audience enjoyed a comprehensive guide through the Celtic rock bands catalogue and cried for more at the end.

The band had played live on Oban FM earlier and that acoustic set had whetted the appetite of the enthusiastic audience. Front-man Paul Eastham commanded the band with confident, powerful, keyboard and vocal performances which are inspired and influenced by Runrig, Big Country and Dire Straits.

Highlights included the Runrig hit Scandinavia and self penned classics ‘To the Windward’ and ‘Big Blue Sky’, which allowed Chris Lappage to exercise his lead guitar with soaring solos. Solid and innovative drums and percussion make for a great sound with the bass and acoustic guitars underplayed to complete the rounded sound of a band destined for greater things.

Word of a Danish recording deal emerged on the night and that continental audience will be ecstatic when they hear the signature anthem ‘Oceanos’, as were the Oban folk when it topped a fine outing as the well deserved encore.

Coast now move on to Inverness and the Borders to complete their Winter Erosion tour.
