Bute Community Land Company gets the perfect storm – media storm

Yesterday (8th February) was all about Bute – and the largest Community Ballot ever undertaken in Scotland – island wide.

As we’d reported, BBC Scotland had been over to the island to film some local views on the proposed community buy-out of Rhubodach Forest from the Attenboroughs, to listen to the driving energy of the community company behind the initiative.

They also made sure to give viewers of every news bulletin throughout the day a sure-fire ‘Ahhhh…’ moment in filming a stunning heavy horse drawing a shorn tree trunk along a forest track.

Add to that the spectacular views, of and from the forest across the isthmus of Bute and swinging to catch the CalMac ferry from Colintraive mastering the swirl of the Kyles to come in to the slip at Rhubodach – and the whole of Scotland was in pure envy.

Great fuel in the tank of the sort of ambition that is shape-changing for communities, regions and countries. Let’s hope it’s catching.

Bute Community Land Company has updated its website with a full record of all the media visits and attention it had yesterday. This was only a part of it.There was STV and a swathe of the national press. Check it out.

And for the residents of this great and fortune-blessed island: you have until this Thusday to cast your vote in the Community Ballot on the buy-out.

Vote Bute.
