Highland Airways has now reopened online booking for its scheduled flights for the next few days and is hoping to have some good news to announce in the next few days.
The company has asked us to pass on its heartfelt thanks to all of its passengers who have sent messages of support.
The company is contracted by Argyll and Bute Council to fly the Argyll Air Service routes to the islands of Coll, Tiree and Colonsay to and from Oban Airport.
Everyone who has flown one of these routes has been dumbstruck by their beauty which, in decent visibility, is remarkable.
It is important for Argyll, for the islanders and for visitors that these services remain in operation – and there is plenty of room for well marketed, enterprising commercial development.
It is also important for Argyll and Bute Council that the service continues – not only in terms of support for its island communities but in serving what is probably the most visionary and laudable act of real ambition the council has shown.
Yes there have been less than dexterous elements of its execution. Yes, the reverberations of those are still around.
But Argyll now has an airport serving its most remote north western islands and creating an unforgettable travel experience for visitors, yet to be strategically exploited.
Take the trip.
