A new partner is the resolution of Highland Airways’ current trading difficulties, accelerated by the reduced flying hours resulting from this winter’s weather conditions. Such a development will stabilise its position and allow it to develop into the future.
The company is in discussions with a potential partner and these are making good progress. The partner in question will bring strong synergies and new opportunities to the business. This development presents the airline with a very promising and timely means to address its current difficulties.
Throughout this tough period of working to save the company, its Board has been focused on two targets:
- continuing the delivery of the services it provides in Scotland, Wales and the rest of the UK;
- securing the employment of its highly skilled and valued workforce.
A sign of confidence in the proximity of a positive outcome, which Argyll will welcome, is that Highland Airways is now accepting bookings on all its scheduled flights until the end of February.
Bookings beyond that point are not currently open but will be released as soon as possible.
As before, the airline wishes to thank its numerous supporters: ‘The company is heartened by the expressions and practical gestures of support from various customers, suppliers, public representatives and staff. We know that it is this support, loyalty and commitment that will carry Highland Airways through what has been a very difficult period.’
For those who, ironically, may ave come to know about the airline in reading about its struggle to survive the recession, it delivers subsidised air services between Cardiff and Anglesey; Stornoway and Benbecula in the Outer Hebrides; and Oban and the Argyll islands of Coll, Tiree and Colonsay.
It also does aerial work, newspaper delivery to some Scottish islands, corporate staff shuttles and air charter.
