International Mother Language Day on Saturday February 20th 2010 will see Kilmartin House Museum host a Gaelic event as its own celebration of the day.

International Mother Language Day was introduced by UNESCO’s General Conference in November 1999 and has been observed every year since February 2000 to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism.

In the Education Room at the Museum from 10am to 3.30pm on 20th February, there will be a Beginners Session in Gaelic Conversation, led by Alec Valtos, a member of Cli Gaidhlig.

The day’s workshop will cost £40 and the maximum number of participants will be 12.
