Dalmally-based charity, Mary’s Meals, links Argyll to Haiti and aid mission

Mary’s Meals is the charity which marries food and education by giving school children in some of the world’s poorest countries a nutritious and sustaining meal during each school day.

It has been feeding 12,000 children in schools in Haiti since 2006 – many in the Cite Soleil slum in the capital of Port au Prince.

The charity has had a lot of support from people in Argyll over the last few days, including donations to help with our school-feeding and recovery work. Oban Lions did a street collection in the town yesterday (Saturday 16th January).

Mary’s Meals is already asking for help in the mammoth effort it will take to help the survivors in Haiti.

They are likely to launch a formal appeal in the next day or so and Mary’s Meals CEO, Magnus MacFarlane Barrow, will probably be going to Haiti very shortly.

The charity is expecting to be helping to repair its own schools and working to re-establish school feeding, as well as assisting with the general recovery in any way it can.
