Community Council to be involved as Council reassesses Ardrishaig pupils walk to school

Alan Reid MP has liaised with Argyll & Bute Council and Ardrishaig Community Council in his pursuit of the issue of pupils from Ardrishaig having to walk on the main A83 to get to school in Lochgilphead.

As we have reported, this has come about because, following an earlier assessment of distance and route, the Council does not pay for bus transport for these young people for the two and a half mile route between the towns around the head of Loch Gilp.

The Council has decided to reassess the route and the Community Council were keen for a representative to be involved in that work. Repeated previous requests to this effect which they had made had received  no positive response.

Mr Reid pointed out the value of this collaboration to the Council and we have now heard that Stewart Turner, Head of Argyll & Bute Council’s Roads and Amenity Services, has agreed to have a member of the Community Council present when the next assessment is done.

This is scheduled for the week beginning 18th January and the Community Council will produce an assessment sheet corresponding to local needs.
