Argyll & Bute Council says that the current five day weather forecast is for a good deal of dry and fine weather but with the possibility of occasional snow showers.

No significant accumulations of snow are expected.

Low temperatures are to persist, with highs of just above freezing throughout the day and with freezing temperatures expected overnight.

The Council will continue to treat the road network in accordance with its Winter Maintenance Policy. This means that with main routes will be be treated first, before dealing with the less strategically vital routes.

Last week’s cold weather has meant that the effectiveness of salt was greatly reduced.  This week the weather is better but road surface temperatures continue to be very low. Because of the weather conditions and the low traffic volumes on Argyll’s roads we can’t expect all our roads to be free from snow and ice.

The message is that these conditions and the low road surface temperatures make it essential for drivers to take care when travelling.

All the main routes are passable but a number of the minor roads are still difficult.

Give yourself more time to make your journeys, drive at speeds appropriate to the road condition and make allowances for incautious behaviour on the part of other road users.
