Sustainable Oban, with the irrepressible Margaret Powell-Joss, was with the 8,00o strong Wave march in Glasgow on Saturday. Here’s the proof - waving.

The Wave was intended to draw attention to the need for the Copenhagen Conference on Climate Change, meeting now, to agree substantial measures as an urgent necessity.
For those who couldn’t be in Glasgow at the weekend but who support the concerns of those who were, Margaret has provided three links to get a sense of the event.
The first is to a Flickr Gallery of stills taken on the day.
Then there are two You Tube Videos:
Jane Wilding from Criagnish Goes Co-CO2, reports of the Saturday Wave experience: ‘Argyll made its presence felt at The Wave in Glasgow last Saturday, with people from Taynuilt to Tarbert taking part in the climate march.
‘Members of Sustainable Oban, Craignish goes Lo-CO2! and Big Green Tarbert were amongst at least 8,000 people calling upon the government to push for a meaningful climate change deal at the Copenhagen talks this month.
‘The march from Bellahouston to Kelvingrove Park culminated in a rally with political and religious leaders, Samba bands and Glasgow choir ‘Protest in Harmony on stage.
‘The rain stayed off, the samba bands were great and everyone had a good time. We hope something happens in Copenhagen – either a strong, fair, binding climate change deal which will protect the poorer countries and actually get to grips with our carbon emissions – or a complete disaster.
‘A disaster means change will have to come from the bottom up, from communities, and there are hundreds of communities now working on their own resilience, and a post-fossil-fuel action plan. It’ll make us stronger as a nation.’
Candlelit vigil on 12th December at Oban’s North Pier
And it’s not over yet.
Sustainable is taking part in the series of candle-lit vigils organised by avaaz.org and to be held all over the world on Saturday 12th December.
The Oban event will be at the Clock Tower at the North Pier on that day between 5.30pm and 6.00pm.
Sustainable Oban is asking as many people as possible to come, bringing their own candle and a camera to take and contribute photographs to a record of Oban’s presence.
It would be helpfu of everyone coming would let Margaret Powell-Joss know in advance so that she will be ready to receive the photographs emailed to her within 24 hours of the vigil. Her contact details are:
- Email: info@sustainable-oban.net
- Phone: 07810 714 421
Oh - and if anyone has time to paint a banner for Saturday, the word from Margaret is: ‘The one we had in Glasgow was really cool and got a lot of attention and media response’.
