The Story of Oban Lifeboat, written by former crew member, Willie Melville, has sold more than any other book this year at the Oban branch of bookseller, Waterstones.
This is a significant achievement on several fronts.
It says a lot for the book and it says a lot for the relationship between the area and its lifeboat.
Pat Maclean, Oban Lifeboat’s Press Officer, is delighted about the tribute to his friend and fellow yachtsman, saying what good news it is that: ‘…a book, which might be perceived to be of relatively narrow interest has made it to this prestigious position and it is obvious that word of mouth has driven these sales.
‘As an ex founding committee member, crew member, deputy launching authority, press officer and chairman of Oban Lifeboat Station, Willie is uniquely qualified to have written this book. His success in bringing local insight into the running of this wonderful organisation is to be commended’.
The book can be bought from Waterstone’s, online from Amazon, or directly by visiting the Oban Lifeboat Station, or directly from Willie. All proceeds from sales go to the RNLI.
Not a bad way to start 2010 by getting genned up on the local and well known Lifeboat and the story of how it got to be the busiest of Scotland’s lifeboats.
