FilmG, MG ALBA’s Gaelic online media shorts competition, has received an outstanding number of entries this year. All 54 of them are now available to view online and to vote for there – see link below.

The spectrum of genres runs from comedies to chilling ghost stories, action and adventure to animations, and true stories to tall tales. There are films from all over Scotland, Canada, the USA and even the Isle of Man

Online voting is now open and runs until 15 January 2010.

The entries will also be judged, throughout December, by executives of BBC ALBA and senior representatives of the Scottish broadcast industry including BBC Scotland director Bill MacLeod, STV producer Patsi MacKenzie and Scottish Screen Head of Talent, Carole Sheridan. The films short-listed in each category will be made public on the Film G website from mid January.

The highest scoring film, voted for by the public, will be presented with the prestigious People’s Choice award at the FilmG awards ceremony on 5th February 2010 at Eden Court, Inverness.

You can both watch the films and vote for them at the FilmG website here.

This year’s theme was ‘Gaisgeach’ which translates to Hero, Warrior or Champion and prizes will be awarded within three film genres: Drama/Comedy, Factual and Entertainment.

Donald Campbell, MG ALBA’s Chief Executive, says: ‘For the second year running our FilmG competition has proved an extremely popular and enjoyable initiative for Gaelic and non-Gaelic speakers alike, of all ages and backgrounds with a keen interest in telling stories on camera’.

Browse and vote.
