CMAL has tracked down for us the two lucky winners of the competition to name the new Islay ferry – the felicitous choice was ‘Finlaggan’.

The people concerned are happy for this to be made public – so stop grinding your teeth in envy at their trip to Poland for the launch of the ship and congratulate them.

They are:

  • Ms Alison Bell, Inverness
  • Mrs M. McRae, Port Wemyss, Islay

And relax. They’re both Ileachs. No alien from Inverness has stolen the birthright of an islander.

Unless we’re very much mistaken, Alison Bell is an Ileach who works in PR, first with the National Trust before it closed its Oban office (the start of the rot), then – ongoing – with her own company, Small Creek Communications and also with Highland Year of Culture.

At least they can take photographs and tell us all about it afterwards.
