(Updated 14th December) The Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team was on the Three Sisters this evening, called out at around 5.00pm with a report of a climber having fallen in the Lost Valley.

Two climbers were involved. One has been taken to Belford Hospital in Fort William for treatment.

Sadly the other sustained fatal injuries.

Neither has yet been named.

Update 18.00 14th December: The climber who died n the Lost Valley has been identified this evening.

He was 37 year-old Alastair Aitken of Newcastle. Sadly, he was one of a party which had gone to the aid of another walker  who had fallen, when he fell himself, 70 ft down a steep ravine onto boulders in the river below and was killed.

Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team has paid tribute to the members of Mr Aitken’s party who got down the ravine, got him out of the river, attempted resuscitation and got the first faller out, on to a ledge and into dry clothes.
