BBC Alba Oban Hogmanay party and live show

BBC Alba is hosting a 90-minute Hogmanay show, transmitted live, at the Argyllshire Gathering Halls. Streamed live, it will also – for the Scottish diaspora and current economic migrants – be available on demand for the following 24 hours from the BBC Alba website.
Following last year’s successful inaugural event. the Hogmanay Show, Bliadhna Mhath Ùr, will be presented by Tony Kearney and Morag MacDonald.
On the fabulous bill of performers renowned in and beyond the Gaelic culture, are:
- Argyll’s own remarkable musicians, Karen Matheson and Donald Shaw from the great and much missed Capercaillie.
- Top folk band Daimh.
- Two of the World’s top piper’s, current World Champion solo piper, Inveraray’s Stuart Liddell and Oban’s Angus MacColl.
- Darren MacLean and Sineag MacIntyre, each Gold Medallists at the 2009 Mod.
- Famed and well-loved Gaelic singer and song-writer, Anne Lorne Gillies.
- And a special appearance from Gaeldom’s one and only Seasaidh Lexy, comic extraordinare.
Karen Matheson – she of the totally thrilling voice, says: ‘As BBC ALBA goes from strength to strength, Donald and I are delighted to be returning to Argyll and performing on home territory on this special night. With the assembled cast, it promises to be a memorable evening’.
The show is being produced for BBC ALBA by Bees Nees Media and will be transmitted on Thursday 31st December 2009 at 11.30pm with a live radio simulcast on Radio Nan Gàidheal. There will be a repeat transmission on BBC ALBA on 1st January 2010 at 16.20pm.
Tickets for Bliadhna Mhath Ùr are free but limited.

BBC ALBA is currently available on Digital Satellite, on Sky 168, Freesat 110 and live on BBC iPlayer. The BBC Trust is currently considering the channel’s future and its supporters are advised to let the Trust know of the cultural value they attribute to it.
