The Oban Concern for Palestine Group has been – typically – very active of late. Support for the Group continues to grow.
- It has organised another public meeting in Oban, with Kate Aspinwall from Ayrshire as the main speaker. She spoke about her experiences in Palestine earlier this year as an impartial peace observer with the Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel (EAPPI) and illustrated very graphically what it was like to live under occupation. The weather on the night was foul but there was a healthy turnout and a lively open discussion after the talk.
- Is is shortly to see two of its members themselves going out to Palestine/Israel for three months each next year – also with the EAPPI (linked above).
- It had a stall at Oban’s Corran Halls when the Argyll Animal Aid organisation held their excellently organised Christmas Fayre. The Oban Group sold over £200 worth of goods made in Palestine and explained to a number of people the purpose for the Group’s existence which is to create more awareness of what is happening there and to take action.
- It ran another stall at the Torosay Castle Craft Fair on Mull during the first weekend of December.
- Jan Sutch Pickard, one of the leaders of the Oban Group and who has also served with EAPPI, also recently convened an informal gathering on Mull of seven peace observers to share information about what is happening just now in Israel/Palestine and the response of different local communities in this Country.
