2009 For Argyll Awards: Nominations update
published this on 12:15 am, Thursday, 24th December, 2009Awards & Competitions| Community News | Comments (rss) | Respond | Ping |
(As at Midnight 24th December) Nominations have now closed.
Below is the final list of all those nominated – and a very interesting document it is. It shows the spread of activity across Argyll, it shows the hot spots and it says a lot about where Argyll’s strengths lie.
All categories are hotly contested – and the one with most nominations was Best Achievement for Argyll. This indicates a great well of recognition and respect for the many significant achievements and achievers in Argyll.
Most of the action today was in supporting nominations but there were still quite a few new nominations. At this stage it is unlikely that a new nomination will have time to gather enough nominations to make the final – but the nomination itself runs a flag up a flagpole for good work done.
- Finalists – those with the highest number of nominations – will be announced by 9.00am tomorrow (24th December).
- Online voting will open at 9.00am on 25th December and close at midnight on 31st December.
- Overall winners in each category – and the two special awards made by For Argyll itself – will be announced sometime in the afternoon of 1st January 2010.

Can I nominate Columba Ceilidh Trail – Feis Loch Goil.
December 22nd, 2009 at 10:46 am
Of course, Barbara. Just click on the Nominations button at the top right of the front page and fill in the form that appears. Scroll down until you find the Category in which you want to nominate the Columba Ceilidh trail. It was a Homecoming event, so you might wish to consider that category.

I tried to vote yesterday but couldn’t get on to the site. This seems to be happening more and more. How many other potential voters are being lost?

its a sad state of affairs when the isle of bute has nothing to shout about in 2009 are the people of this isle so wrapped up in them selves . next year but will be nominated for some thing i promise

That’s what we want to see, Iain. There’s a huge amount of activity and initiative on Bute – but it needs to be known and recognised as it deserves. Go for it.

There are 3 items from Bute that I can think of…
Bute Highland Games. One of the biggest ( for visitors ) independant games in Scotland.
Bigman Walking…was a great success over the 2 days and bought in hugh numbers of visitors to the island….
and I do not need to mention the fantastic achievement that has been Callum Cabin.
The problem with Bute is that we just do not blow our trumpet at all !
December 28th, 2009 at 6:05 pm
Time to start blowing it, Mark. There’s so much going on in Bute that the rest of Argyll will enjoy and benefit from knowing about. We cover what we get hold of – Big Man Walking was a fabulous event – and If Bute folk email us information on anything and everything, we’ll make sure our audience hears about it. Use the Contact email on the website or ring 01499 500677 and we’ll be straight back to you.
