Conservation is the category in which there is no public vote because there’s only one finalist – Machriemore Mill in Kintyre’s Southend.
When we published our article on its entry, we said we were curious about some things we had no information about. The owner has now sent us additional photographs – we’d wanted to see the fully restored water-wheel – and some additional information.

This Awards scheme and the online public vote to decide on the public’s winners, alongside the winners decided by a panel of expert judges, has been attracting a lot of interest – so sharing these new photographs on Machriemore Mill seems worth doing.

We now know that the mill is on three floors (which we’d guessed) with 4 en-suite bedrooms, lounge and two further sitting areas and with open plan kitchen/dining area.

We’ve also discovered that the mill is available for renting throughout the year. We’re trying to get the details of this for anyone interested and when we run them down, we’ll add them here to this article.
DON’T FORGET TO VOTE
Most of the time we’re not given the opportunity to say what we think. We didn’t get the promised vote on the EU’s Lisbon Treaty. We may not get a vote on Scotland’s future. But we do have a vote on Argyll’s Sustainable Design Forum’s 2009 Awards. Basic philosophy: when anyone ever gives you a voice and a vote on anything – use it. So…
Refresh your memory and VOTE
While you have no online vote in the Conservation category because there is only one finalist, you do have a vote in each of the other 3 categories.
You don’t have to live in Argyll to vote so, whether or not you do, if you haven’t voted yet, refresh your memory on the finalists in each of the 3 voting categories by clicking on our coverage of each – linked below. Here you can find out more about them and see the four photographs published on each entry.
Sustainable Design Awards categories and finalists are:
- Small scale residential category (single houses to schemes up to 5 units)
- Large scale residential category
- New build non-residential category (public buildings)
You will also be interested in the initial article on Argyll’s new Sustainable Design Awards, on the Sustainable Design Forum whose initiative has launched them and in other articles on sustainable design projects – all in our archive of articles on sustainable design projects.
Then go VOTE at the Argyll Sustainable Design Forum’s online voting page. Closing date is 27th November.
