The love affair with the car that put paid to the century-old passenger ferry service on Loch Lomond that stopped about 30 years ago is now, of course, responding to environmental concerns.
This has inspired the management at Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park to reintroduce such a service on the loch.
The intention is to cut emissions and lochside road traffic – particularly on the A83 arterial route into and through Argyll from Glasgow to Campbeltown - while getting more people into the park in a way that is attuned to its nature.
The plan is for a full service linking villages along the length of the loch and on both sides of it - leaving from Balloch at the southern end and going in to Balmaha, Rowardennan, Luss, Inversnaid and Tarbet.
The National Park management is being assisted in this exciting development by Scottish Enterprise and is aiming for a trial service next summer.
