Hang up on phone call offering Council Tax refund

It’s a scam. Argyll & Bute Council has become aware of a series of fraudulent calls being made to Council Tax payers across Argyll and Bute.

The caller claims that the account holder is due a Council Tax refund and then asks for their bank details so that this refund can be processed.

This is a scam.

Anyone who receives such a call should hang up and immediately contact both their local Police station and Argyll and Bute’s Trading Standards office on 01546 604404.

The Council Tax department at the Council never asks anybody for their bank details when processing refunds.
