For Argyll has received a range of phone calls and emails from members of the public and, in particular, users of the Calmac Oban-Lismore ferry.

Concerns are being expressed about the company’ reinstatement of the Skipper of the ferry over a bizarre and inexplicable incident which we reported recently.

The anxieties expressed relate not only to perceived leniency but, more seriously, to worries about safety undermining confidence in users of the service.

Some comments in this vein have also been posted to the original story.

A CalMac spokesman has just told us: ‘The internal investigation into the near miss by the MV Eigg on October 17 has now been completed.  Its conclusions are confidential. However we can confirm that disciplinary action has been taken as a result of its findings.  The skipper is expected to return to work next  month but will be deployed on another route’.

The skipper seems to be keeping a pretty low profile at the moment. Perhaps we should all go and see him when he is working the door at the Ceilidh House at night? Hang on – maybe that is why he was so tired that day! Did anybody else see hime there???

  4. ANON Says:
