News not public yet but Tiree has won £43,479 from the People’s Millions in competition with the Glespin Community Garden from Lanarkshire.

Tiree wants to thank all the Tiree folk and their friends and all the Argyll folk and the many connections they recruited to support this tiny population out there somewhere in the sea.

The island can now look forward to a warm, dark, comfortable cinema, extending the pleasures of life on the ‘sunshine isle’ (summer, that is).

Congratulations to the island and to the energetic team that drove this project to such a successful conclusion.

Popcorn all round – they did promise.

Good to see the Tiree folk gaining success in this.

I have to say that I thought the voting arrangements looked to favour the much more populous Glespin bid but yet another feather in the caps of the small but gallus rural communities that make Argyll & Bute such an interesting location.
