World Solo Drumming Championship – Argyll results

Two of Inveraray & District Pipe Band’s finalists in different sections of today’s World Solo Pipe Band Championships found themselves finishing second in their respective grade finals after defeating the winner in the previous stage.

Former Adult World Champion, Steven McWhirter came second overall this year to Barry Wilson of Scottish Power, having beaten him into second place in his Semi Final.

And Robert Dempster, who came second in the Juvenile 1 Grade to James MacNeil of Robert Malcolm Memorial, had beaten MacNeil into 5th place in an earlier Heat.

Also making it into the Juvenile 1 Finals and acquitting themselves well, were Mark Leishman from Kintyre Schools who came 3rd after winning his Heat; and Ewan Fife, from Inveraray & District who came 6th.

In competition, Stuafrt Liddell played the pipes to accompany Steven McWhirter. Alasdair Dempster, Robert’s older brother played for him; and Julie Blue fom Campbeltown – who plays with Shotts & Dykehead Pipe Band, played for Mark Leishman of Kintyre sShools.
