The Glenfiddich World Solo Piping Competition, 31st October

Recognised as the World Championships for solo pipers, the 36th Glenfiddich 2009 trophy will be contested hotly this coming Saturday (31st October) at Blair Castle in Perthshire, starting at 10.00am sharp.

Argyll is well represented at The Glenfiddich this year,  with:

  • Angus MacColl (Oban)
  • Willie McCallum (Campbeltown)
  • Stuart Liddell (Inveraray)

The other pipers invited to participate and facing the challenge from Argyll are: Glenn Brown, Alastair Dunn, Bruce Gandy, Roderick MacLeod, James Murray, Iain Speirs and Gordon Walker.

The judges for each of the various elements are:

Piobaireachd

  • Ronald MacShannon
  • Malcolm Macrae
  • Jack Taylor

March, Strathspey & Reel

  • Bill Livingstone
  • Iain MacFadyen
  • Andrew Wright

Fear an Tighe

  • John Wilson

The following day (Sunday 1st November) will see the 20th Glenfiddich Fiddle Championship at Blair Castle, Blair Atholl, Perthshire, starting at 2.00pm.
