Skykon and Strathclyde Fire & Rescue sponsor star events on Tiree & Coll

The spectacular annual Tiree Wave Classic international windsurfing event and the unique triathlon that is the CalMac Coll Challenge have attracted new sponsors.
The Tiree Wave Classic runs from 10th – 16 October and the CalMac Coll Challenge runs, windsurfs and bikes on and between the islands of Tiree and Coll on 15th October.

Skykon
Skykon is a newcomer to Argyll and something of a White Knight in riding to the rescue of Kintyre by taking over the wind turbine tower manufacturing plant at Campbeltown for a major upgrading. The beautiful beach at Machrihanish, near its Kintyre plant, is now becoming a major surfing beach in its own right. The young Boardseekers business supporting the sport is established in Campbeltown. Skykon’s support for the sport and for the Tiree event will be winning the company new friends across Argyll.

We had first hand knowledge of how good these guys are when Tiree’s Lodge Hotel had a fire in the kitchen when we were running the competition. This was dealt with within minutes. With the range of sponsors now on board, this year’s events are shaping up to be one of the best yet. It’s one of Tiree’s and one of Argyll’s unique events, underlining the wealth of natural resources here for the best activity tourism.
