The next Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, taking over next May, is to be the Reverend John Cairns Christie.

Mr Christie was ordained in 1990 at Hyndland Parish Church in Glasgow where he ministered for 14 years.  He was then called to the interim ministry, which sends ministers to work in congregations which need help for a period up to two years . Mr Christie has been serving in two such churches: West Kilbride’s St Andrew’s Parish Church and the Scots Kirk in Lausanne in Switzerland.

There is also an Argyll link – Mr Christie was principal teacher of Science at Tiree High School from 1978 until 198. Read about this in the Tiree newspaper, An Tirisdeach.

As the late Oliver Reid said ” The Church of Scotland appoints a Moderator whereas it requires an accelerator”

That should read “the late Oliver Brown”. I doubt if the late Oliver reid was very often in a condition to make such insightful comment.

If David Hill had been present at the last General Assembly of the Church of Scotland he would realise that a Moderator has its uses as well.
Glad he spotted his own error. The wisdom of Oliver Brown remains as relevant as ever.

With the moral fabric of the nation in tatters I think all our religions need an accelerator particularly one that drives them together into common purpose.
