It would be really interesting to read the statistic showing breakdown of speeding penalties by county in Scotland dived by the driving population.
I was captured myself on the M8 a number of years ago just as the speed limit changes to 50mph entering Glasgow by a unmarked patrol car. As I had not left the motorway and was negotiating with several lanes of moving traffic, I never expected and missed the speed reduction sign to 50mph. I was doing 64mph. The officers processed me in about 2 minutes flat and moved on to their next victim. I did feel it was a bit off at the time I was on the three lane M8 motorway but paid up and chalked it down to experience.
It is easy to miss the signs in such circumstances but the law is the law and the speed limits are there for a reason, I never miss the flashy ones on entering the towns, they are very effective and measure your speed as well, they also embarrass you by letting everyone else know that you are being hasty. I suspect the real question is, what are we really trying to achieve, speed reduction or stealth taxes. If it is speed reductions how about a few more flashy signs at these so called hot spots that the police feel the need to lie in hide at?
I wonder if a radar detector for Jamie's car would a legitimate expenses claim in the current climate?

Most citizens of Argyll do a lot of car miles and I imagine the citizens of Argyll may pay a lot of speeding fines.
