Islay High School drama teacher sues Argyll & Bute Council

A drama teacher at Islay High School in  Bowmore is claiming to be suffering health problems with a psychiatric illness resulting from stress caused by the bad behaviour of her pupils. The main problems presented were with an S3 class of pupils, some of whom allegedly swore and overturned chairs.

42 year-old Rosemary Fletcher from Port Askaig claims that discipline is poor at the school, that this was responsible for her problems and she is suing Argyll and Bute Council, as the responsible authority, for £800,000, citing negligence.

The Council is contesting the case and says that Mrs Fletcher did not report cases of stress-related problems to her superiors and that had she reported specific incidents as they occurred, the children in question would have been disciplined.
