Islay drama teacher drops £800k case against Argyll & Bute Council

42 year-old drama teacher Rosemary Fletcher, from Port Askaig in Islay, today dropped her lawsuit against Argyll & Bute Council. She had been suing it for £800,000 damages for negligence over her departure from Islay High School tbrough a stress-related illness in 2001.

Her claim that her stress was caused by being given a particularly badly behaved class has been heard at Edinburgh Court of Session over the past three days.

Earlier today, her counsel, James Campbell QC, told the court that it had been decided ‘not to advance this cause further’.

No costs were awarded against either party and Argyll & Bute Council’s QC, Ian Mackay, said that no financial payment of any kind would be made to Mrs Fletcher.
