On Saturday 7th November, at 6.00pm, Crear in Kilberry is hosting the last of its 2009 season’s concerts. Florian Boesch (baritone) and Malcolm Martineau (piano) will present a programme including:

  • Schumann’s Opus 24, liederkreis and selected ballads from the Crear recording, and
  • Schubert  -  selected songs including: Der gott und die bajadere, Der könig in thule, An den mond, Im frühling, Auf der bruck and Die vögel.

Martineau is something of a favourite at Crear and is well known to its concert-goers. He took a masterclass there in the 2007 series, with four singers and two pianists; and in January this year (2009) he took another masterclass and gave a recital with seven singers and two pianists, one being himself.

He is Edinburgh born and has played not only throughout the UK but in Amsterdam, Paris, Vienna, Munich, Berlin, Milan and North America. He has accompanied singers like Janet Baker, Ann Sofie Von Otter, Thomas Allen, Felicity Lott, Bryn Terfel and Tom Krause as well as major instrumentalists. He has received major awards and prizes in recognition of his work and he has accompanied some of the greatest singers as they took their own masterclasses.

Florian Boesch, the Austrian baritone whom Martineau accompanies in this concert has a repertoire ranging from J.S. Bach to Wolf and Gustav Mahler.

An acclaimed singer of Lieder, he has appeared at the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg and at a rnage of the world’s top concert halls including the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Cologne Philharmonic, the Brussels Palais des Beaux-Arts and the Wigmore Hall in London. He has also featured in BBC Radio 3’s lunchtime recitals series.

Drinks and canapés will be served.

This concert will put Crear’s 2009 series memrorably to bed while the programme for 2010 is finalised.

Part of the adventure of Crear is the road through the glorious and unspoiled Kilberry peninsula – remembering to bring a torch for the walk from car to concert – and the presence nearby of the Kilberry Inn with its award winning food.
