A rare Purple Hairstreak butterfly has been spotted outside the NTS Visitor Centre Killiecrankie in Perthshire.
The butterfly is said to be a female of the species to perhaps this is a show of gender solidarity with controversial NTS Chair, Shonaig MacPherson, who is standing down and with CEO Kate Mavor, identified with the MacPherson regime and whose own position must effectively now be probationary.
The Purple Hairstreak was found on the ground outside the Killiecrankie Centre by its Manager, Ben Notley, about 3 weeks ago. It’s more commonly found south of the border and high in the branches of oak trees.

Unlike most butterflies, this one does not feed on flowers but gets its nourishment from honeydew.
