A real USP for Dunoon?

With Waitrose coming to Scotland for the first time – and eagerly awaited – might it be persuaded to come to Dunoon?
That would give pause for thought to the the unimaginable percentage of Cowal folk who cross the water to shop on the mainland – and it would pull serious traffic to Dunoon. The top end of Loch Lomond, much of Mid Argyll and some of Kintyre – via the Portavadie ferry – would add to Cowal’s own population in going for Waitrose. This could also be a more attractive shopping trip for much of Inverclyde than a trawl to the city.
With none of the premium end of the supermarket spectrum available in most of Argyll, Waitrose would be a serious unique selling point (USP) for Dunoon. With a bit of a trip to get there, people would want to spend some time in the town – driving up the quality, variety and attractiveness of small shops, cafes and restaurants.
Of course this is pipe-dreaming but if there is as yet no decision on which retailer is to come in to the new site in the town…

I like this kind of pipe-dreaming. Waitrose would be truly great, and a real boost for Dunoon. All those shops on the high street will benefit so much because we won’t be going over the water to Tescos. Just hope the price of office consumables goes down — 17.99 for an ink cartridge is a scandal.
