They’re used to this, of course, as the RNLI’s busiest lifeboat in Scotland, but the crew of the Oban lifeboat have been on their second shout today – both of them to Craignure on the Isle of Mull.
This launch came at 17.14, three short hours after they were back on station after the earlier launch.
A diver who had surfaced too quickly and was suspected of having the bends had to be rushed to hospital in Oban. He was brought to Craignure from Tobermory by ambulance and got there some time after the lifeboat’s arrival at 17.46.
The Mora Edith MacDonald had the patient back in Oban at 18.40 where he was transferred to Lorn and the Isles Hospital and is currently being assessed in case he needs re-pressurisation.
The lifeboat, with its usual sharp professionalism, was back on station by 19.00, refuelled and ready to respond.
