Oban Lifeboat launches in ‘false alarm with good intent’

The Oban Lifeboat launched at 13.08 today to the assistance of a canoeist reported by an shoreside observer to be in trouble off Duart Point in the approaches to the Sound of Mull.

In concern over the prevailing weather state, Mull Coastguards had asked the CalMac ferry, Isle of Mull, to standby.

The Lifeboat made contact with the canoeist who was in fact alright, well-equipped and on his way back to Craignure.

The Lifeboat was back on station, refuelled and ready for action by 14.03.
