Tiree Coll Adventure Race 3

Thursday 15th October ramps up the already high adrenaline of that week on the Isle of Tiree. The annual Tiree Wave Classic, run by GMF Co, takes place from 10th – 16th October and 15th October sees its twin event, linking the sister islands of Tiree and Coll.

This is the Coll Challenge Adventure Race – and challenge it is.

The three-legged challenge

Tiree Coll Adventure Race 1You run on one of Tiree’s idyllic white sand beaches for 2-3 miles. You’re allowed a short rest before you change into a windsurf wetsuit before taking on the second leg.

This is a 2-4 hour downwind (in theory, anyway) long distance slalom, in a cruise, sprint, cruise, sprint sequence. You’re advised to be prepared for all conditions. When you land on Coll, there’s another rest before a change into mountain bike kit.

And then it’s into the last leg – biking the course of the Coll Half-Marathon, 11.5 miles of road, track and sand dunes.

You can do all 3 legs yourself – or you can enter as a team of 3, with each person doing one of the 3 legs. You can’t say fairer than that.

Afterwards

Prize giving – for those still standing – will be at the Coll Hotel between 4.00pm and 5.00pm. Overnight accommodation is available 4 miles away at the Hebridean Centre and the Calmac ferry will take you back to Tiree at 8.55am the following morning (16th October).

Pre-entry

Pre-entry is essential. Without it there won’t be a place for you. This has to be done by Friday 2nd October (this Friday) and can be by phone to: 0141 248 6151 or by email to Louise Adam at l.adam@gmfco.co.uk

Registration

Registration (Fee £50) is mandatory. It takes place at 8.00pm on Tuesday 13th October in An Talla hall on Tiree.

You bring your own Mountain Bike and hand both it and a set of dry clothes to race organisers at An Talla hall on Tiree on registration (Tuesday 13th). These will then be transported to Coll for you to await your arrival by water on Thursday 15th.

We’ll have more shortly on the main event – the Tiree Wave Classic – but for the moment, you can check out the latest developments in the countdown to this spectacular event on the Tiree Wave Classic’s Twitter page.

The top two photographs are self-explanatory, as is the last one above – except for its location. The memorably shaped island in the background is Dutchman’s Cap, one of Argyll’s Treshnish Islands, – a chain which includes the Isle of Staffa, famed for the music and the reality of Fingal’s Cave.
