Camanachd Cup 2009 result

Today, the 2009 Homecoming Camanachd Cup, the blue riband trophy of shinty, was played at Oban’s Mossfield Stadium.

The result was a disappointment for Argyll, whose hopes were riding on Tignabruaich’s Kyles Athletic, but Fort William were the victors today (and for the third time in succession), winning 4-3 in what was clearly a closely fought contest.

The fact that the score was 3-0 to Fort William at the 70th minute gives a sense of just what a fight Kyles then put up. Within 7 minutes the were at 3-3 but the Fort managed the decider – and congratulations from Argyll to the Fort William team for their stunning recent record.

Next year?

Camanachd Association website

Disappointing to note that the Camanachd Association’s own website, almost 24 hours after its own premier cup final, carries no news of the result. Could do better.

  1. No harm meant! The young team from Kyles did very well and were most unfortunate not to take the game into extra time. Inveraray also have a nice mix of youth and experience and Oban Camanachd seem to be building again too. Signs are hopefull that the Cup will be coming back to Argyll on a more regular basis in the next few years. Keep up the good work with the site.
