PC8

In a ‘drams at dawn’ contest (and all other available hours),  PC8 has taken prime position on the podium from a field of around 200 whiskies at Royal Mile Whiskies’  annual tasting for the Spirit of the Fringe Award.

The tasting took place last weekend at the old church of Mansfield Traquair during the Edinburgh Festival. All visitors were given the chance to keep tasting and vote for their favourite spirit tasted over the weekend.

Islay’s Bruichladdich Distillery‘s ‘s PC8 (Port Charlotte 8 year old) – a heavily peated Bruichladdich to the tune of 40 ppm’s worth – was voted by the the Spirit of Whisky Fringe 2009 and awarded the trophy.

In the last three years, the Edinburgh Festival’s dram fans have taken Bruichladdich to two wins and one second place at this contest.

This win was all the more impressive as the 8 year old whisky was up against considerably older whiskies, some four times the age.

PC8 is the fourth and final release in Bruichladdich’s dramatic 6 tin image series. The picture tins, featuring the distiller and his team – Islay folk – now showcase Islay’s heritage.

‘Ar Duthchas’, land of our fathers, portrays landmarks from Islay’s remote Rhinns peninsula, celebrating mans’ long presence there in the tangible heritage of this special isle.

PC8, bottled on islay at 60.5%, should be compared to previous bottlings PC5, PC6 and PC7 – rated respectively at 95%, 96% and 96.5% in Jim Murray’s  2009 Whisky Bible.
