Missing Loch Long canoeist now named

The missing Argyll man whose canoe was found on Loch Long on 19th March has been nmed by Strathclyde Police as 57 year-old Andrew Maconochie, a former commodore of Cove Sailing Club described as a competent sailor and canoeist.

A resident of Cove on the Rosneath peninsula on the east side of Loch Long, Mr Maconochie’s car was found later on 19th March, near his home in Cove, overlooking the loch. He iss described as 6ft tall, slim and fair haired.

He was last seen in his canoe on the loch aat 1.30pm on 19th March. His canoe was found empty at 5.00pm, about 1.5 miles NW of Ardentinny, on the loch’s west – Cowal – shore.

A full search of the loch and its surrounding area by water, air and land based services, found no trace of Mr Maconochie.

Strathclyde Police are appealing for information. A spokesman said: ‘Friends and family are keen for anyone who may have seen Andrew to come forward as there has been no contact from him since he has gone missing. They are becoming extremely anxious for his wellbeing’.
