At 8.00pm on 6th March at An Tobar, Tobermory’s Sorren Maclean is back in his home venue after his February tour and is celebrating the release of his new single, ‘Bus Tax and Bars’. He’ll have his usual backing band of John Barlow (drums) and Gordon Maclean (bass), generating upbeat pop and catchy tunes. And in this gig, Sorren is supported by Glasgow based songwriter Anna Meldrum. (Tickets are £8, with £6 for members and -18s.)
The February tour went very well indeed. Sorren and the band had a lot of good press: 4 stars in the List and the Sunday Mail and 3 stars – but with a superb review in the Daily Record. They also had a 4 star live review in yesterday’s Sunday Mail (1st March) and a fair few radio plays on Radio 1, Radio Scotland, BBC Rapal (single of the week), Oban FM and Northsound FM Aberdeen.
They’ve recently played in Aberdeen, Dundee, Birnam Institute in Dunkeld (supporting Michael Marra), Edinburgh, Glasgow (both Brel and The Classic Grand). Then there’s this Friday’s Tobermory gig – above, followed by a three-day Highland tour. This will take in:
- 13t March – The Black Stairs in Wick
- 14gth March – The Arch in Ullapool with Pearl and the Puppets – who are soon to be supporting Elton John and who also did the Christmas Vodaphone ad
- 15th March – Hootenannys in Inverness
Then it will be back into the studio to get some more new material recorded – and new audineces waiting keenly to get it.
