For anyone aged 12 upwards and interested in traditional and folk music there is a new residential teenage fèis (workshop) at the Lochgoilhead Centre from 27th-29th March. This is a weekend of music and fun, combined with outdoor activities.
The music side is at Lochgoilhead Fiddle Workshop. The outdoor activities are at the Lochgoilhead Centre – the former Scout Centre. The fun is everywhere.
- You can sample trying the fiddle, whistle, chanter, clarsach or accordion and some easy and fun Gaelic songs and games.
- All participants will have periods of outdoor activities ranging from water activities to archery and a huge climbing frame. (Are you brave enough to try the climbing wall?)
- Tuition will be from professional musicians:
- Ingrid Henderson a renowned clarsach player from Lochaber
- Allan Henderson fiddle player and member of Blazin Fiddles
- Sileas Sinclair an accomplished accordion player from Oban
- Angus Nicholson, piper and whistle player from Skye
- Dougie Beck, drama tutor and games master
Every single one of these music tutors have appeared on TV and have featured at Celtic Connections over the years.
There are only 28 places available and if the primary one which Fèis Lochgoilhead runs at the moment – which is always fully booked- is anything to go by, it will be an excellent weekend.
Price per person will be £55 and will include full professional music tuition, physical activities by the Lochgoilhead Centre’s own professional instructors; it will also include food, 2 night’s accommodation and overnight supervision.
All tuition will be through the medium of English with the opportunity to try a few Gaelic phrases.
